As a Group, we have surpassed the R250 billion sales mark this year. In rand terms, just our growth in sales this year equated to R20.6 billion. We prioritised customers, and in our core Supermarkets RSA segment gave back R16.5 billion at point of sale whilst remaining steadfast on containing our selling price inflation at 2.3%. We again created thousands of jobs and innovated across the board – not just on the digital and quick commerce front but also where, as a result, millions of South African households can eat better and transact for less. In doing so, as per our purpose, our customers live better lives.

The Shoprite Group is bringing next level convenience to the people of Durbanville and surrounds, with the opening of a Checkers supermarket as well as five standalone stores - Checkers LiquorShop, Checkers Little Me, Checkers Outdoor, Petshop Science and the Northern Suburbs’ first UNIQ clothing by Checkers store - at new shopping destination, Groot Phesantekraal View.

The Shoprite Group's 29 distribution centres across the country – including its newest state-of-the-art 94 000 m2 Riverfields facility – have ramped up operations for this year’s longest promotional campaign, Checkers’ XXL Savings, that offers over R45 million in savings to customers every day for six weeks straight (9 June to 20 July).

The Shoprite Group is the first South African retailer to launch a fully recyclable 7kg potato pocket – solving a complex packaging problem that has challenged the industry for years.
