While most of us will be wrapped in warm clothes and enjoy piping hot meals every day this winter, many people will once again have to face the harsh weather without a roof over their heads and enough to eat. That is why Shoprite and Checkers have teamed up with radio stations and charity organizations across the country for winter collection campaigns that encourage customers to open their hearts and help relieve the severity of winter for those families who are in need. Shoprite and Checkers have made their Golden Trolleys available as collection points for the essential items asked for in each campaign.
- In Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West Province Shoprite and Checkers is supporting the Jacaranda 94.2 and Gift of the Givers Winter Warmer campaign that appeals for the donation of new blankets and canned food. The campaign runs from 3 May until 31 July.
- In the Northern Cape and Free State, Shoprite and Checkers have teamed up with OFM who urges the public to donate blankets, clothes and shoes. Items collected will be donated to the Shannon Home Care Centre, Mooihawe Old Age Home and Tshepang Home, as well as distributed by Shoprite to other needy communities in the two provinces. The campaign runs from 16 June until 31 July.
- In the Eastern Cape, Shoprite and Checkers have joined forces with The Salvation Army and Kingfisher FM with a request to donate blankets and non-perishable food items. The campaign runs from 1- 30 June.
- In the Western Cape, Shoprite and Checkers is working with Radio Tygerberg in a bid to collect as many new blankets as possible as protection against the bitter cold of winter. Radio Tygerberg will distribute the blankets to needy communities on Mandela Day, 18 July 2010.
- In KwaZulu-Natal, Shoprite and Checkers have teamed up with Lotus FM and the Gift of the Givers organization to collect new blankets and non-perishable food items. The campaign runs from 21 June until 31 July.
The public is urged to contribute to these worthy causes by donating the required goods at any Shoprite, Checkers or Checkers Hyper store in the relevant province. The Golden Trolleys are located at the entrance of the stores.
