You can give back to learners in need while doing your back-to-school shopping at Checkers.

No one knows the challenges of back-to-school season better than parents. From uniforms to last-minute glue sticks, scissors, and pencils, the list seems endless. Yet there’s something magical about seeing kids pack their bags for the first day of school –fresh notebooks, sharp pencils, and the promise of a new start.

For many families, though, back-to-school is far from joyful. The costs add up quickly, and while some low-income schools may receive stationery grants, many do not, and it’s rarely enough when supplied. Many learners end up sharing supplies – or go without the basics entirely.

Now trending: giving back

Checkers is encouraging a season of giving with its Act For Change Back-to-School project and calling on customers to join this nationwide drive to provide stationery to learners in need.

All proceeds will be donated to Meals on Wheels, who will ensure that much-needed stationery is donated to a list of vetted schools across the country.

At the centre of the campaign is a limited-edition Act for Change exam pad that has been specially designed and produced for fundraising purposes – exclusively available in Checkers stores and on Checkers Sixty60. If you buy it between 29 December and 1 February, R2 of each sale will be donated towards the stationery fund.

Share the love while you shop

Checkers is also joined by leading stationery brands – including Pritt, Bostik, Henkel, Staedtler, Penflex, Bic, Butterfly, Casio calculators, KV Art, Freedom Stationery, Bidvest, Palm Stationery, CTP Stationery, Sappi, and Plastafrica – each donating a percentage of sales from their products to help provide stationery to schools in need.

And remember, Checkers Sixty60 is there to take convenience even further – offering all the essentials, including stationery filtered for each grade – and everything will be seamlessly delivered to your door within 60 minutes, while still making a difference.

No stationery in your basket? No problem – you can still support the cause!

Anyone can contribute by donating R5 to the Act for Change Fund at Checkers till points nationwide. The Fund is active all year round, with proceeds allocated to CSI programmes across the country.
