The Checkers supermarket chain partnered with Stellenbosch University’s Wilgenhof Mens’ Residence to break the record for the world’s largest lunchbox. The lunchbox measuring 8,47m3 (2,55m x 2,66m x 1,25m) shattered the previous record of 4,74m3.

As part of Checkers’ on-going community involvement the record sized lunchbox was filled with over R100 000 worth of products sponsored by Checkers on 16 April and displayed in the Stellenbosch University’s Rooiplein. The lunchbox contents will be donated to Andrew Murray Child and Youth Care Centre in Wellington, with each of the 150 children in the home receiving individually packed boxes with necessities identified by the Centre.
