Boerewors-makers from eight of South Africa’s provinces will go all out to impress the judges in the regional rounds of the 2008 Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition taking place at selected locations countrywide during July and August. The popular competition has drawn more than a thousand entries this year! More than 22% of these entrants participated in the competition in previous years and found it to be such a rewarding and exciting experience that they decided to join the battle for the Boerewors Crown once again. Gauteng received the most entries with 283, the Western Cape second with 227 and KwaZulu-Natal third with 102. Free State surpassed previous years’ numbers to come in at fourth position with 93 entries, closely followed by Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga with 84 and 80 entries respectively. North West received 71, Limpopo 62 and Northern Cape 41 entries.
47 regional winners in the Shoprite Checkers Championship Boerewors Competition have been announced at regional rounds that took place on 26 July and 2 August. The remaining 33 regional rounds will be held on 16 and 23 August at selected locations countrywide.
