Stellenbosch University (SU) conferred a honorary doctorate to Shoprite CEO, Mr Whitey Basson at the seventh of the University’s December graduation ceremonies held on 10 December 2010. Basson received the degree Doctor in Commerce (DComm) honoris causa for his outstanding leadership qualities; for his excellent achievements as business leader and job creator; and for his continued support of and investment in the development of human potential in the disadvantaged sectors of society...
Mr Basson received this honour alongside former South African Reserve Bank governor Mr Tito Mboweni.
