Since establishing our Mobile Soup Kitchen initiative in 2007, Shoprite has served more than 61.1 million meals (FY2023) as it continues with its journey to combat hunger.
The programme that started with just three trucks serving Gauteng and the North West province, has grown into a fleet of over 30 trucks supporting numerous organisations in need.
The Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchens serve our community members regularly and in times of need. They are often among the first respondents to initiate support to communities affected by disasters.
Collaborating with partners such as Mars, PepsiCo, Tiger Brands, Fuso and UD Trucks, the mobile soup kitchens have also created employment for over 80 staff members who are passionate about the communities they serve.
This feeding programme distributes thousands of cups of nutritional soup and bread per month to communities.
In the wake of the #KZNFloods, Shoprite South Africa and Checkers, a long-standing partner in our Disaster Response Soup Kitchen initiative, provided 35 000 cans of food and 12 000 litres of water towards our relief efforts.”
