In the 13th year of existence, TOPstars, the Shoprite Group’s annual singing contest, remains committed to encouraging growth in the lives of the participants from around the African continent.
Through the Group’s commitment to staff development, TOPstars provides employees with opportunities for personal growth. The competition is open to the more than 147 000 of the Group’s employees. The finalists learn how to express themselves artistically on stage and develop life skills that keeps them united, inspired and motivated.

Event Producer, Mynie Grové along with two of South Africa’s most respected vocal and performance coaches (Amanda Luyt and Heinrich Frans) shared their wealth of knowledge and experience with the finalists.

The grand finale was hosted at the Grand Arena, GrandWest Casino on 19 October 2019 where 12 of Shoprite’s most talented singers, performers from across the continent competed for the coveted title.
Brenda Pender, a Trainee Manager from Shoprite in Asaba, Nigeria, was crowned TOPstars champion for 2019.

Jackreece from Shoprite Ikeja City Mall in Nigeria was first runner-up and Jade Engelbrecht who represents OK Furniture Mitchells Plain was second runner-up.
