Checkers Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg has created 120 new jobs in the local community, of which 118 are youth (between the ages of 18 and 35) and 117 are women, bringing the full staff complement to 155 staff members, ready to assist.

Checkers Midlands Mall is the 10th new-look store and it officially opened for business last week (15 March 2018).

The state-of-the-art Checkers store forms part of the mall’s new extension and promises greater convenience and an elevated customer experience including wider aisles and shelves. The in-store service departments include an impressive Cheese Deli, Coffee Bar, Wine Shop and Sushi Bar.

To celebrate the store’s opening, customers were treated to countless special offers, in-store competitions as well as delicious tasters from the Cheese World range of over 400 speciality cheeses, SA’s No.1 Championship Boerewors, Oh My Goodness! kids range and more.

The 10th new-look Checkers. Riaz Cotwal (Checkers Divisional Manager, KwaZulu-Natal), Willem Hunlun (Chief Operating Officer, Checkers), Mayor Themba Njilo (Mayor of Msunduzi Municipality), Lizarie du Plessis (Marketing Campaign Manager), Akesh Ragunanan (Regional Manager), Rajen Govender (Deputy Divisional Manager) and Vanessa Naidoo (Public Relations Officer, KwaZulu-Natal).

About the new store:

  • Checkers Midlands Mall has a total of 17 pay points.

  • In-store fresh food departments include a Meat Market, Fish Shop, Hot & Cold Foods Deli, Bakery, Fresh Fruit & Vegetables, Coffee Bar and Sushi Bar.

  • A range of extensive services are available at the in-store Money Market counter including payment of municipal or service accounts, buying national lottery, bus, airline or Computicket event tickets, and much more.

  • The store’s trading hours are 08:00 – 20:00 from Mondays to Sundays.
