The Shoprite Group has opened its heart to the destitute and needy communities of Masiphumelele outside Noordhoek, by donating a truckload of food and supplies worth over R130 000 to relief organisations such as the Red Cross Society. Together with local disaster management teams, they are providing relief in Masiphumelele where 4000 people have been displaced after a devastating fire broke out over the weekend.
The Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchen has been on site in Masiphumelele since Sunday (29 November) to serve meals to those who have lost their homes and will continue to do so for the rest of the week, whilst Shoprite’s daily donations of food and supplies provide continuous assistance to the Red Cross who are preparing meals in the local community.
Members of the public can place donations in the marked trolleys in the front of the Checkers Hyper Sun Valley store (Cnr Buller Louw Drive & Irene Way, Noordhoek), who will ensure that with the assistance of local relief organisations, items are distributed to affected people working to rebuild their lives. The store has also donated vouchers and drinking water worth over R12 000 to local community organisation, Living Hope, to assist with relief.
Shoprite and Checkers will continue to liaise with local relief organisations to provide assistance where possible.
