Through this programme, we aim to attract the leaders of tomorrow by giving them the opportunity to grow personally and professionally, and become part of our team upon completing their studies.
Training with us is differentiated by the fact that you receive exposure to the commerce industry and on-the-job training across diverse areas of our business. On top of this, we provide dedicated mentorship and all the academic support you need in preparation for the SAICA Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) exam.

Accounting graduates or final year students can apply directly to the Trainee Accountant Programme, and undergraduate students can access the programme via our comprehensive accounting bursary.

Throughout your three-year training contract, you’ll be mentored by our management team and receive on-the-job training across the business to develop the prescribed SAICA learning outcomes in preparation for the SAICA APC exam.

Who can apply for Shoprite's Trainee Accountant Programme?
We are looking for bright and hard-working aspiring accountants who are eager to embark on this journey of professional and personal growth with us.
If you fit any of the below descriptions, you can apply.
- Final year students who are enrolled towards the completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA)/Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA) or Honours in Accounting at a relevant SAICA accredited university.
- Individuals who have graduated with an Honours in Accounting, PGDA or CTA, and are eligible to write or have passed the SAICA ITC board exam.

The Shoprite Trainee Accountant Programme is based in Brackenfell, Cape Town with potential short-term rotations to Johannesburg and Durban. Successful candidates will join annually in February.
