With a majority female leadership team and almost 80 years of combined retail experience, the team at Shoprite Verulam Highway is proof that the retail industry is definitely no longer just a man’s world.
At the helm is branch manager Farhana Pillay who joined the Shoprite Group in 1989 as a part-time cashier at Checkers Brickhill Road. With perseverance she climbed the retail ladder, first as Cash Office Clerk, then Admin Manager (a position she held for 10 years) and most recently, Branch Manager.
Pillay’s management team includes Reona Naidoo (Back Admin Manager), Elianne Khan (Fresh Food Manager) and Yolanda Moonsamy (Front Admin Manager).

Both Naidoo and Moonsamy joined Shoprite at the age of 18. Khan started as a cashier at Shoprite Mini Verulam more than 15 years ago.
Rajeev Rambharos (Sales Manager) is the only male in the management team. “Their determination and drive to succeed encourages me to give my best and grow within the business,” he explains.
