Following the past weekend’s flash floods in the Eastern Cape, the Shoprite Group acted swiftly to bring relief to affected community members in East London.
The Group immediately dispatched a Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchen. The Mobile Soup Kitchen continues to serve warm meals to those displaced and affected by the floods and will remain in the affected area for as long as necessary.
Food parcels with cooking oil, instant soup, rice, samp, beans and other non-perishable food items were packed and handed to Gift of the Givers to distribute to displaced and affected families. Stationery packs were also donated.
“The Shoprite Group has always been committed to supporting communities in need and we will always avail our resources to help when disaster strikes, especially in the communities we serve. We remain in close contact with Gift of the Givers and authorities on the ground regarding the disaster relief efforts and will assist for as long as necessary.”
- Sanjeev Raghubir, Sustainability Manager at the Shoprite Group
The Shoprite Group also recently assisted in donating basic food items - including energy drinks, water, eggs and snacks - to the firefighters who battled the Kleinmond blaze in the Overstrand area of the Western Cape earlier this week.
