Oudtshoorn-born accounting graduate Kayla Matthews says that a bursary from the Shoprite Group has helped to realise her dreams.

The 24-year-old completed a Bachelor of Accounting, and later an Honours Degree in Accounting, at Stellenbosch University. In the second year of her undergraduate studies, the Shoprite Group offered Matthews a bursary which covered her tuition, accommodation and meals.

“The bursary took the financial burden off my parents and allowed me to focus on my studies,” Matthews says.

Upon graduating, Matthews began her articles at the company and this opportunity has enabled her to broaden her knowledge and skills.

“The accounting programme has exposed me not only to the financial side of the business but also to the operational and strategic sides. I hope to continue learning from some of the best men and women in the business to become a successful leader myself. I truly believe that Shoprite is the perfect platform from which to realise this dream."
