The Shoprite Group was among the first to respond and support those left destitute by the recent fires in Booysens, Johannesburg.

The Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchen served about 7 000 meals of fortified soup and bread to more than 2 000 people between Saturday 23 and Tuesday 26 January 2020.

“We do not know what we would have done if Shoprite did not dispatch its soup kitchen to our community. Shoprite made sure that we have one less thing to worry about: feeding our children for a few days.”

- Nhlanhla Ndoda, one of the community members affected by the fire

“In these difficult times, the Shoprite Group is committed in giving a helping hand to the communities it serves, especially when disaster strikes. These are our customers - the core of our business - so we will always avail our resources to help.”

- Lunga Schoeman, CSI Manager for the Shoprite Group

Since the start of the national lockdown, the Shoprite Mobile Soup Kitchens have delivered over 3.7 million meals supporting more than 4 000 organisations throughout the country.
