Shoprite donated 400 pairs of school shoes in Theunissen, Free State, along with local DJ Mbulelo “LeGoody” Khathaza this week.

200 parcels each containing a pair of shoes, shoe brush, polish and a snack pack were distributed to learners at Boliba and Khotso Primary Schools, which Khathaza attended in his youth. Shoprite also delivered microwaves, kettles, pots and wooden spoons to both schools, and community service organisation Meals on Wheels donated 20 x 10kg bags of rice, samp and maize meal.  

“We are very grateful to Shoprite for this kind gesture. These shoes came at just the right time. Winter is a challenging season as some of our learners cannot afford to buy shoes.”

“We are also thankful for the kitchen appliances as well as the food. It will make a huge difference in our school,” added Thiwane.

“At Shoprite we are committed to looking after vulnerable communities. No child should go to school without shoes, especially during the winter season,” commented Sanjeev Raghubir, Group Sustainability Manager.

In coming weeks Shoprite will donate another 600 pairs of shoes to schools in vulnerable communities in the Northern Cape, North West and Lesotho.
