At Shoprite we are a team made of our #EverydayHeroes. From our cashiers, to our front-end controller, receiving and store management - everyone shows up every day to proudly serve the nations where we operate.

Here we celebrate just a few of our #EverydayHeroes:

Andries Mogale Moseri, Stock Counting Clerk at Shoprite Protea Glean

“After I completed my studies, I enrolled as a Shoprite retail student and that journey allowed me to work in various departments within the store. So I regard myself as an all-rounder when it comes to retail duties. After successfully completing my learnership in 2017, I was employed as a Till Packer. I was privileged to be amongst the stock taking team within months after I was hired because that gave me an opportunity to demonstrate my skills which I really love to do. I was eventually promoted to be a cashier where I served customers with a smile and would always receive compliments from both customers and managers of my store. Later that year I was promoted to my current position as a Scanning Clerk. With Shoprite, I'm able to provide for all my family and pay off my study loan. I'm keen on learning more so I intend to explore different study opportunities provided by the company”.

Olona Soyamba, Receiving Admin Clerck at Checkers Ngebs City

“It is a very difficult time in South Africa and the world at the moment, I'm grateful to Shoprite for giving me this opportunity to grow with them. My journey with Shoprite, though it has not been long, it has been a wonderful year filled with great lessons and growth. I started work in March 2019 as a cashier for the front end, but because of my curiosity, I wanted to learn more, be more and grow within the company. At Shoprite, we are always a team and I was able to learn through being a cashier at our Ngebs Liquor Store. I got to know the operations, work with other people beside the front end, and experience being a clerk at Money Market and Receiving. I can safely say I'm still having a marvellous journey at Shoprite and I'm looking forward to growing more and being more with our company”.

Portia July, Cashier at Checkers Constantia

“I started at Checkers Constantia as a Till Parker and I was enjoying every little moment there. The amazing part is that it was a new store so I’m grateful for the opportunity to work there. It can be very challenging sometimes but I always tell myself that I need to be focused and look at me now, I'm a cashier at the store! I got to meet new friends and learned a lot from this store. I love Checkers Constantia!”.

Tshekgofatso Meno, Fruit and veg assistant at Checkers Parys

“My story was hard to say, but I believe it will encourage those who hear it. Before I joined Checkers on 23 November 2017, I was addicted to drugs. I was sent to rehab but failed to stay clean at the time. Thankfully, right before joining Checkers, I decided to change my lifestyle and behaviour for the better. Once I was hired, I started living a drug-free life. It’s been over two years and 10 months now, and I’m pleased to share that my life has improved beyond my expectations”.

Andria Moiloa, Baker at Shoprite Glen Ridge Mall,

“I’ve been working at Shoprite for over eight years now and although I’ve always loved my job, being able to work daily right through the COVID-19 pandemic has made me cherish my job even more. I’ve seen many people lose their jobs and income, but here I am making sure our customers have freshly baked goods to enjoy during this hard time. I’m proud that in total, we bake over 1 500 loaves of bread daily for the last few months helping to feed our customers!”.

Muhammad Ibrahim, Grocery Stockroom Assistant at Ado Bayero Mall

“I’ve worked for the Shoprite Group for over six years now and I haven’t stopped smiling since I started. My best moment was when I received my Staff Buying Card as the COVID-19 pandemic started. It’s helped so much and I appreciate the gesture!”.
