The Shoprite Group will be doing its very best to facilitate social grant payments quickly and efficiently while protecting the well-being of its customers and employees.

There will by necessity be a large number of people queuing for social grant payments this week and the Group is working hard to ensure these payments are made as safely as possible.

Apart from the stringent hygiene and safety measures already operational in all stores, a number of additional measures are in place for social grant payouts including the following:

  • Customers queuing for grant payouts will be asked to maintain a social distance of at least 1.5 metres.

  • Where available, chairs for pensioners will be placed 1.5 metres apart.

  • Throughout the day security will walk up and down the queue outside the store and offer to spray customers’ hands with disinfectant.

  • Security will only permit 10 people at a time, and will again offer to spray their hands with disinfectant upon entry.

The Group has taken numerous pro-active steps to safeguard the health and well-being of its employees and customers so that it can continue to provide food and basic necessities to its millions of customers in the most hygienic and safe way possible.

It is also appealing to customers to wear face masks, abide by social distancing rules and make sure their hands are washed or sanitised.

If we work together as businesses, employees and customers, we can help stop this virus in its tracks.
