Since the 21-day lockdown started in South Africa, the national anthem is played every day at 13h00 in Shoprite, Checkers and Usave supermarkets.

Large numbers of employees spontaneously joined in and broke into song as they went about their duties ensuring South Africans are provided with food and household essentials at this crucial and unprecedented time.

They are at the frontline serving the people as South Africans adhere to the national lockdown called by President Cyril Ramaphosa to significantly slow down the spread of the Coronavirus.

“Singing the national anthem together at a specific time of every day of the 21-day lockdown not only lifts the spirit, but also fosters a real sense of togetherness.”
