Making cleanups a habit

Jun 5, 2019

Following a successful event in April in which 100 learners cleaned up the streets of Langa, Vusa Rugby and Learning Academy and Shoprite are organising another community cleanup in the township.

A successful cleanup in Langa in April prompted the community to organise another one on World Oceans Day.
We had a great turn-out last time and want to cultivate pride in the community that nurtured our learners. Saturday is World Oceans Day, and by cleaning up our community we’re doing our bit to ensure that less waste makes it into the ocean.

- Makabongwe Kahla, Vusa Academy head coach

Vusa promotes social upliftment among under-privileged children through sports and academics.

It is estimated that between 80-90% of litter that ends up in the ocean comes from land-based sources.

Packa-Ching will be the recycling partner at the event. Shoprite’s Mobile Soup Kitchen will be serving at the cleanup, while other partners Just Popcorn and TooMuchWifi will also be there.
