  • Shoprite Zambia is opening its second new-look store. Located in Lusaka’s East Park Mall, it is less than 2 km from the country’s leading tertiary institute, the University of Zambia.
  • With the opening the Group is creating 200 jobs.
  • Shoprite East Park Mall caters to the next generation of Zambian professionals and occupies some 3 400m² of floor space and includes world-class features like: A dedicated cheese bar, a shop-within-a-shop liquor section; and a breads-of-the-world bakery.

Africa’s largest food retailer changed the face of retail in Zambia with the opening of a world-class store in the Woodlands/Kabulonga area in March 2019.

“Shoprite Kabulonga is blazing a trail in the local retail sector and is resonating with our customers, so it made perfect business sense for us to open another one of these stores. We’re also very excited by the prospect of serving the next generation of Zambian professionals studying at the nearby university.”

- Charles Bota, General Manager of Shoprite Zambia

Shoprite East Park Mall promises an unrivalled retail experience with the best quality products at the most affordable prices, including more convenience meals, a wider range of healthier food products and extended opening hours, from 8am to 8pm every day of the week including public holidays.

“By continuing to expand our footprint in Zambia, we illustrate our commitment to the development and growth of our country. This is our 37th Shoprite store in Zambia and with its opening, we’re creating 200 jobs.”

- Charles Bota

The first to introduce formal trading in retail 24 years ago, Shoprite Zambia currently employs 4 600 people of which 52% are women and 80% are people under the age of 34.

The retailer also supports local Zambian suppliers. All poultry products except turkey are sourced in-country with 92% of dairy and 64% of frozen dairy coming from local suppliers. No less than 85% of fresh fruit and vegetables available in Shoprite Zambia’s stores are supplied by local small-scale farmers.

Shoprite Zambia acts for change in the communities it serves. Its Mobile Soup Kitchen is an integral part of its hunger relief programme, serving at Zambian Open Community Schools (ZOCs) while establishing food gardens at these schools. To date three thriving gardens have been established in an around Lusaka, and an additional two schools have been identified to also receive food gardens.
