There are many destitute people in South Africa who are dependent on the compassionate women in their communities for food.

At Shoprite we reach out to such remarkable women and take hands with them to ensure they are able to keep on making a lasting difference in the lives of others.

One of these women with an extraordinary sense of caring is Mickey Linda from Yiza Ekhaya Soup Kitchen in Khayelitsha, outside Cape Town.

Two women gardening.

There’s a need for the soup kitchen here, I don’t know how … but I must do something.”

And that is exactly what Mickey did. Every day Mickey and her team of volunteers feed children before and after school. Then also serve hot, nutritious meals to clinic patients.

Inspired by the work Mickey is doing, the Shoprite Group lend our support to create sustainable food sources for the families Mickey cares for. We will continue to empower women like Mickey, to support and sustain the communities in which we operate.
