Fire fighters and volunteers who battled the devastating fires in the Paarl Valley and around Somerset West earlier this month received sustenance in the form of water, energy drinks, wet wipes, lip balm, fruit and sandwiches from their local Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets on a daily basis.

Last week Shoprite Montagu and Checkers Mountain Mill in Worcester assisted local fire fighters when blazes broke out in the Breede River Valley, whilst Shoprite Oudtshoorn donated a truckload of 15 120ℓ of bottled water to the De Rust community in the Karoo amidst severe water shortages.

Following heavy storms across the Limpopo province last month, Shoprite Mankweng in Polokwane donated 540kg of rice, samp and maize to the SA Red Cross Society who distributed these to affected families.
