During the winter school holiday more than 40 learners from three schools in Cape Town’s southern suburbs will travel to the Eastern Cape to provide Mathematics and Physical Science tutoring to grade 12 learners from Isolomzi Secondary School in Kentani. Shoprite is supporting the work of these learners by supplying food, blankets, beanies and scarves, as well as much needed kitchen equipment and bedding for the Isolomzi Secondary School’s hostel.

Shoprite regularly takes hands with partners such as the Transkei Isolomzi Outreach, established and managed by Rondebosch Boys High School, in order to respond to the needs of local communities.

Little did we know how we would be touched by the lives of others, and actually be taught life lessons from those we went to teach. Life truly does work in mysterious ways. It was so enriching to see the youth helping one another as the classes were taught by learners themselves.

- Alison Malindi from Herschel Girls’ School participated in the Transkei Isolomzi Outreach in 2016.

The Transkei Isolomzi Outreach has been running for seven years and in 2016 the Isolomzi Secondary School’s matric class achieved a 97% pass rate (up from 46%) with numerous distinctions. This included a 91% pass rate in Maths Literacy and 93% pass rate in Physical Sciences.

This year's outreach will take place from 8 - 19 July 2017 and will include 24 learners from Rondebosch Boys High School, 17 learners from Rustenburg Girls High School and three learners from Springfield Girls High School.
