Checkers LiquorShop unveiled the latest addition to its exclusive Private Barrel Co. range of whiskies – a 10-year-old Glen Scotia single malt – during a virtual Twitter tasting ahead of World Whisky Day on Saturday, 20 May.

Whisky connoisseurs, media and online influencers were led on a taste journey by Anel Grobler, editor of drinksfeed.com, as they sampled four different Private Barrel Co. single malts from the comfort of their own homes.

The evening culminated with the big reveal of the Private Barrel Co.’s sensational 10-year-old Glen Scotia single malt, sourced from this award-winning Campbeltown distillery of the year and matured in 1st fill American oak casks.

Tasting notes

When savouring the Private Barrel Co.’s Glen Scotia, consumers can expect aromas of pineapple and lemon zest on the nose along with hints of orange marmalade, sliced apple with honey and vanilla syrup on the palate. The finish is long and rich with warming cinnamon and clove spice.

Tradition

The Glen Scotia distillery, owned by the renowned Loch Lomond Group, was founded in 1832 and has been distilling on the same site ever since, producing a distinctive Campbeltown style of single malt.

Whiskies under the Private Barrel Co. label are hand-picked by whisky masters who travel to the top distilleries in Scotland in search of rare single malt whiskies with unique character and devotion to age-old traditions. These are then bottled in small quantities, one cask of each whisky, under the Private Barrel Co. label and individually numbered to bring to consumers at supermarket prices.

The other three Private Barrel Co. whiskies tasted during the virtual Twitter tasting was:

No.68: A 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky matured in American oak bourbon casks. It is gentle on the palate with subtle notes of spice and oak, with a finish of vanilla.

Glenlossie: A 15-year-old single malt Scotch whisky matured in bourbon casks. It has a palate of pineapple notes with subtle spice and honey; and hints of dark chocolate.

Glen Grant: A 17-year-old single malt Scotch whisky matured in sherry casks and was the most mature whisky of the evening. It has an aroma of butterscotch, chocolate and pears, with a warm velvety texture finish.
