Checkers is proud to join forces with the community of Jamestown, just outside Stellenbosch, in support of the 2016 Jamestown Strawberry Festival.
The festival, running from 4 to 5 November 2016, will feature some of South Africa’s sweetest strawberries, most delicious food, innovative arts and crafts as well as local entertainment.
The community of Jamestown has a strong agricultural heritage, with strawberries featuring prominently as the crop of choice for many local small scale farmers.
This heritage continues to be passed down from generation to generation, with the Strawberry Festival representing one of the main platforms for community members to showcase their produce and crafts, while boosting the local economy.
The entrepreneurial spirit of the local community and their determination to promote social and economic development in the area is closely aligned to the work Checkers is doing in communities across the country.
Checkers works to #ActForChange in the communities in which it operates by supporting local farmers and small businesses such as those in Jamestown and creating opportunities for them to grow. The retailer’s support for the 2016 Jamestown Strawberry Festival is part of its ongoing commitment to foster entrepreneurship and high impact social investment in communities across the country.
Festival goers will be able to take advantage of the famous Jamestown Strawberry, all the food and crafts on display at the many stalls including a Championship Boerewors stand, while soaking up the town’s rich history.
The Jamestown Strawberry Festival kicks off with a night market on Friday 4 November, from 6pm to 10pm, with the main festival running from 9am to 6pm on Saturday 5 November 2016. All events will take place on Webersvalleiweg, Jamestown main road.
