Black Friday back & bigger at Checkers, up to 50% off on everyday products

 

The world’s biggest sales promotion is back at Checkers on Friday, 25 November. Checkers was the first food retailer to bring Black Friday to South Africa in 2014, and this year it is again discounting prices by up to 50% on everyday products that were carefully selected with consumers’ shopping needs in mind.

Consumers can look forward to real, substantial savings on essential items like washing powder and nappies. There are also great discounts on Christmas gifts, including a staggering 40% off on one of the world’s hottest tech toys.

“This is our biggest Black Friday yet, with 40% more products on offer than last year. In 2015, Checkers served over a million customers on the day and sold enough Coke to fill more than 3 Olympic-sized swimming pools. An even greater response is expected this year, so extensive planning was done to ensure we again offer value to all and our stores are extending their trading hours to cater for the increased demand,” said Neil Schreuder, Marketing Director for Checkers.

Tens of thousands of consumers entered the retailer’s online competition earlier this week, which will see one lucky individual win a 10-minute shopping spree at their nearest Checkers store, along with a R5 000 shopping voucher, the night before Black Friday. This winner will be the very first person to shop this year’s Black Friday deals at Checkers. 

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving Thursday in America when retailers traditionally break with massively discounted merchandise. The term is historically known in the American retail industry as the day on which business began to turn a profit (in the ‘black’) after having operated at a loss (in the ‘red’) since January. Black Friday is also regarded as the official start of the Christmas shopping season.

Items are available during store trading hours while stocks last. The discounted deals will be advertised in the media nationally from Thursday, 24 November.
