Shoprite and Checkers annually presents the Toy 4 Toy Campaign that urges customers to donate new or used toys to needy children. From 14 November until 9 December customers could make a contribution by buying or bringing toys and placing them in the Toy 4 Toy trolleys in front of all Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores countrywide.

Through the generous donations received from members of the public, thousands of toys were again collected this year! The toys will be distributed to children throughout South Africa by the Nataniël Progress Project and BADISA.

As part of the Toy 4 Toy campaign, Shoprite and Checkers, in association with Ster-Kinekor, also hosted Christmas parties for approximately a thousand children who find themselves in children’s homes and other care institutions over the festive period.

The children were thrilled and could not stop talking about the special outing and all their wonderful treats.

The kids, dresses up in brand new Toy 4 Toy t-shirts and fun Christmas hats, were treated to a screening of the new Smurfs movie at Ster-Kinekor, and given popcorn, slushies and sweets to enjoy during the movie. Thereafter it was time for a visit from Father Christmas who brought each child a backpack that contained stationery, toys and lunch boxes filled with tasty treats. And that wasn’t all – every child was also surprised with a Winnie-the-Pooh soft toy and two Smurfs!

The children were thrilled and could not stop talking about the special outing and all their wonderful treats.

Thank you to everyone who donated a toy and made it possible for Shoprite, Checkers, BADISA and the Nataniël Progress Project, to bring joy to the lives of so many needy children this festive season.
