Shoprite, the official supplier to the SA Soccer Supporter, has offered the Soccer Corner in-store since September 2005. Considering the large enthusiasm for the beautiful game, Shoprite annually buys a number of soccer related lines in order to provide customers with whatever they want for the next game! A special Soccer Corner sticker has been placed on all 2006 Championship Boerewors packs – collect your sticker and send it in to Shoprite and stand the chance to win BIG prizes including track suits, Orlando Pirates & Chiefs merchandize and lots more! (See Kick Off magazine for details)
In 2007, as in previous years, the Soccer Corner Campaign will also include National Road shows accompanied by Soccer Corner related give-aways, lucky prizes and entertainment by Chris Njokwana, the freestyle dribbling champion in South-Africa. From September to October, Shoprite will have 18 Road-shows around the country at busy Taxi Ranks and Train stations.
Soccer Corner Community Competition
Shoprite annually dedicates 1 month of the Shoprite Community Network to Soccer Corner.
The Community Network programme is aimed at helping organisations that make a difference in their communities. The general public is asked to nominate deserving community projects in their area and Shoprite chooses the organizations they feel have the biggest need and deserves the aid. The “winner” in each region receives R10 000 worth of aid from Shoprite. The money is used to acquire what the project desperately need. The programme is broadcast on radio stations Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene, Lesedi, Motsweding, Munghana Lonene FM, Thobela, Ligwalagwala, Ikwekwezi, Phalaphala, Good Hope, Voice of the Cape and Lotus FM. Over the past 2 years, Shoprite Community Network has spent more than R 2,2 million to community projects such as these!
During September 2007 the programme focuses on Soccer development and the community can accordingly call in to nominate a worthy and needy soccer team in their area. In 2006 twelve soccer teams from around the country were voted the winners of Shoprite's Soccer Corner Community Network and won themselves Shoprite branded soccer kits with soccer boots, socks, shin guards, shorts, soccer shirts, training bibs, whistles, a full goal-keepers outfit and a team kit bag. This year the deserving soccer teams will win R 10,000 worth of aid.
