To celebrate the launch of a brand new consumer service, Shoprite and Checkers together with the low-cost airline, Mango, will be offering special deals on flight tickets for the holiday season. In November the Shoprite Group became the first retailer in the country to act as a ticket issuing agent for an airline.

As of 26 November 2007 tickets for flights aboard Mango will be available for sale at the Money Market counters at all Shoprite and Checkers stores. Once payment has been made, customers will receive an e-ticket as proof of their purchase. Customers need to take the e-ticket along with their ID book to the check-in counters at the airport on the day of departure.

During the promotional period 30 November until 14 December a limited number of tickets for one-way flights scheduled for departure before 31 January will be available from as little as R99 for flights from Johannesburg to Durban, and R199 for travel to and from other major cities in South Africa. These prices are available only at Money Market counters and not through any of Mango’s other ticket purchasing channels.

Shoprite and Checkers’ Money Markets focus on adding value to its customer’s shopping experience by providing convenience and saving them time. The current Money Market service-offering include products such as cell phone and Telkom pre-paid airtime, money transfers, education savings and funeral policies, payments for utilities, purchasing of bus and event tickets through Computicket, as well as the recently launched pay-when-you-can insurance product. By adding airline tickets to the mix Shoprite and Checkers now make it possible for customers wishing to purchase air travel to do so at more than five hundred retail outlets countrywide, thereby expanding the Money Market travel products and adding further value for our customers.
