The search for South Africa’s most inspiring and outstanding women in 2005 is underway and the entire nation now has the opportunity to submit nominations for the nation’s most prestigious award for women.

The Shoprite Checkers/ SABC2 Woman of the Year Award, which is the premier accolade for achievement by women, this year celebrates its tenth anniversary as a major initiative for National Women’s Day. In this milestone anniversary year the Award will again announce an overall winner selected from the category winners.

The Award pays tribute to the most exceptional and achieving women in the country who have not only achieved success in their own respective fields but who have made a tangible difference in communities and society as a whole.

South Africans are invited to participate in the search by nominating the country’s best in seven categories: business entrepreneurs, health, education, social welfare, arts, culture and communications, sport, and science and technology.

Each of the seven category winners of the 2005 Shoprite Checkers / SABC 2 Woman of the Year Award will receive R10 000 in prize money, while the overall winner will receive R30 000 in prize money.

South African Airways will for the fifth year running be the official carrier of the Shoprite Checkers / SABC 2 Woman of the Year Award while Sun International’s flagship Table Bay Hotel will host the finalists and judges in Cape Town.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday, 11 May 2005 and nomination forms are available from Shoprite or Checkers stores, via the Internet, by contacting the organisers at (011) 465 5225, or by e-mail: sawoman@calibro.co.za
