Shoprite Checkers and SACCAWU are pleased to announce that, following exhaustive and complex negotiations over the last nine days, an agreement has been reached to settle their recent dispute.

The settlement provides for a range of measures which will enhance the job security, wages and working conditions of part-time employees and at the same time ensure manning level flexibility to allow the company to continue providing high levels of customer service in a fiercely competitive trading environment.

A final meeting between the company and the union will be held today to deal with logistical issues arising out of the return to work which is expected to take place from tomorrow, 7 November 2003.

Shoprite Checkers wishes to thank customers for their understanding; loyalty and support during the recent SACCAWU strike action.

Both parties once again commit themselves to providing the best service, prices and shopping convenience.
