We #ActForChange in Communities

The Shoprite Group is committed to #ActForChange in the communities in which we operate by joining forces with local partners on high impact social investment initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives. We are committed to help communities grow, develop and realise their full potential.  We do this because communities are at the core of our business.

Each year we partner with hundreds of local non-profit organisations, community projects, schools and other worthy causes all working to make the communities we share stronger and better places to live and work. We recognise that without healthy and sustainable communities, our business will not strive and grow.

The Shoprite Group receives thousands of proposals for a variety of initiatives, programs and events per year. While we salute the efforts of so many volunteers and organisations working to make a difference in our communities, we are focused on those initiatives that align with our overall #ActForChange priorities.

How to request a donation:

Understand our process

All requests for donations must be submitted via our website. All proposals that meet our guidelines and further our strategic goals and objectives will be considered for funding. Applications that are faxed or mailed will be returned to the applicant with an invitation to apply online. Due to the high volume of requests received, we are unable to take telephonic requests and confirm the status of requests or receipt of requests telephonically.

Submitting a request does not guarantee funding; even though we would love to, we are not able to respond positively to all aligned requests for funding.

Requests for donations must be submitted at least 6 – 8 weeks prior to the event to be considered.  All received requests will be reviewed and considered and we will revert back to you within one month should your application be successful.

All approved requests for donations will require confirmation on an official letterhead of the represented organisation.

Organisations are assisted once per year.

Learn about what we fund

We fund projects that align with our strategic goals and objectives. These include:

  • Projects that aim to fight hunger in a sustainable manner and aim to promote sustainable access to the economy in the communities where we operate
  • Preference is given to registered Non-Profit Organisations with Public Benefit Organisation status, however, all projects that drive real impact and have clearly defined goals, monitoring measures and outcomes in place will be considered
  • For longer funding cycles, preference is given to innovative and scalable initiatives that will grow into fully sustainable operations once the funding cycle has ended
  • Requests that benefit the communities where we operate and better the lives of our customers will be favourably considered

Take note of our exclusions

We wish we could support all the worthy projects that submit requests for assistance, however, there are several types of requests that we are unable to accommodate. They include:
