• Africa’s largest retailer is gearing up for its seventh Black Friday and as a responsible retailer, both Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets will for the first time extend their Black Friday deals to run across more days and keep the deals valid for longer in response to COVID-19.
• Checkers was the first supermarket to bring Black Friday to South Africa in 2014 and for the past six years have stayed true to the Black Friday tradition of one day of deep-cut specials that offer real value.
• Considering the pressures many households are under given the current economic environment and the challenges posed by COVID-19, the retailer decided to extend its Black Friday deals and will offer deals and discounts of up to 50% on everyday essentials as customers are increasingly looking for value given the pressure many households are under.

• Stringent hygiene and sanitising protocols will be in place to help protect customers and employees as far as possible including the use of face masks, hand sanitiser, social distancing and limited entry where necessary to avoid overcrowding. Additional security measures will also be employed.
• Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets will run Black Friday deals across several days to give  customers enough time to plan and shop, so as to offer all an improved shopping experience with health and safety the top priority.

• Shoprite and Checkers stores will have extended trading hours, which will differ per region. Extended trading hours are communicated to customers closer to the time with their respective Black Friday leaflets.
  

• The COVID-19 pandemic heightened the demand for online grocery shopping.
• To meet the massive increase in demand during lockdown, Checkers rapidly expanded Sixty60 to provide a much-needed service to its customers.
• Sixty60 offered early app-only Black Friday deals from 19 - 21 November.  Download the app for more details.
• Black Friday online deals at Checkers Food Services are valid from 23 – 28 November 2020.

• Early Black Friday deals were valid at Shoprite from 20 - 22 November 2020 and will be valid at Checkers from 23 - 24 November 2020.
• Shoprite and Checkers Xtra Savings members will be alerted to deals first once they are made public and some deals will only be applicable to Xtra Savings members.
• Deals will be offered on selected products across a range of categories including groceries, electronics, small appliances, toys and more.
• In recent years there has been an increased demand for Black Friday specials on electronics and appliances, but 2020 has been a particularly tough year and given the current economic climate, Shoprite and Checkers are expecting customers to welcome the discounts on everyday essentials.
