Shoprite and Checkers again raises more than R1.5 million for CANSA

Sep 19, 2018

Shoprite and Checkers stores across South Africa again raised more than R1.5 million for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) by donating a portion of all cakes sold in their stores between 1 and 30 June 2018.

Shoprite and Checkers have a long-standing relationship with CANSA and to date its annual in-store fundraising efforts have raised more than R9 million for the association.

The funds raised will be used to enhance the support programmes offered by CANSA’s nationwide Care Centres.

“We strive to make a positive contribution in the communities where we trade and it’s wonderful knowing that a small gesture can make a big difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”

- Arno Abeln, General Manager: Fresh Foods at Shoprite and Checkers

“We’re grateful to Shoprite and Checkers for their ongoing support. A cancer diagnosis leaves people feeling shocked, overwhelmed and helpless. That’s why CANSA’s comprehensive care and support programmes play such an important role, and this would not be possible without the generous donations from Shoprite and Checkers that enable us to continue offering our services.”

- Elize Joubert, CEO of CANSA
