Bringing food costs down at Iris House hospice

We have provided additional support to Sue van der Linde, the founder of the Iris House Children’s Hospice in the Western Cape, and her team to bring down food costs and supplement meals with nutritious vegetables.

Iris House started providing care for 12 special needs children and support for their families in 2012. Today it provides 305 children with specialised therapies, home-based support and respite care for their families.

Together with Urban Harvest, we have assisted to make its garden more sustainable, planting crops and transferring knowledge so that Iris House and members of the surrounding community can grow produce themselves.

Preparation of the food garden was done on 11 July 2016, with the planting beginning on Mandela Day, 18 July 2016.
