When we launched our Mobile Soup Kitchens in February 2007, there were two mobile units serving 7 000 cups of soup a month in Gauteng and the North West provinces.
As we mark 10 years of this programme, our Mobile Soup Kitchens have served more than 30 million meals to disadvantaged communities and disaster stricken areas across South Africa.
The programme now employs 74 people, who have driven our 19 mobile kitchens more than 4.5-million kilometres to aid hungry communities.
Each Mobile Soup Kitchen operates from a base store where vehicles are stocked up with bread and soup ingredients each morning before heading off on the road to communities in need.
The teams work together - stocking up, making soup, driving and feeding young and old on a daily basis.
This initiative now serves on average 300 000 cups of nutritional soup and bread every month.
We are transforming what was an immediate hunger relief initiative into longer-term sustainable programmes across an increasing number of countries in which we operate.
