Initiative brings employment and hope to deaf Tobias Shozi

We have assisted with skills development for the deaf through the Decade of the Deaf initiative, which to date has given 700 Deaf learners the opportunity to secure employment.

Tobias Shozi, who sat at home near Klaarwater in KwaZulu-Natal for eight years with no job and no hope for the future, was made aware of eDeaf, which offers training and learnership programmes to empower deaf communities for business.

eDeaf accepted him on the Shoprite Checkers learnership programme, where he trained in a simulated environmen and completed his NQF Level 2 qualification in Wholesale and Retail.

Tobias was offered a permanent position in Shoprite Chatsworth where he works in the deli and deals with customers.  He hopes to one day be the first deaf Assistant Manager.
