In a space of just six years, Kimberly Soobramoney (29) has made great strides in her career. Joining the Shoprite Group as a Trainee Accountant in 2013, this powerhouse was recently promoted to Head of Financial Business Partners at the retailer’s Home Office in Brackenfell, Cape Town.

“In my current position I oversee the financial and statutory functions of various brands including OK Furniture, MediRite and Checkers Food Services,” she explains.

Kimberly credits hard work and a positive attitude with her success. “These qualities will not only stand you in good stead in business but also in every other aspect of your life.”

Armed with excellent matric results, Kimberly had successfully applied for a bursary from the Group to complete her BCom in Accounting and graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2012.

She considers the guaranteed employment at Africa’s largest retailer the greatest benefit of this bursary programme:

“The graduate programme, which saw me completing my accounting articles, gave me exposure to both the operational and the financial sides of the business. Coming out of that programme I was stronger, more confident and had a clearer vision of the career path I wanted to pursue.”
