Shoprite acquires computicket

The Shoprite group and Media24 announced on Tuesday, 1 November 2005, that the Shoprite Group of companies has acquired the entire issued share capital of Computicket (Pty) Ltd from Media24. The transaction was subject to the approval of the Competition Commission and is now secured.

Trading update at annual general meeting

In the first three months of the 2006 financial year the Group increased total turnover by 11,8% on a comparable basis, continuing the sales trend that characterised the 2005 financial year. Although food inflation increased marginally it remained well below the CPI with many staple products selling at prices below those of a year ago.

Shoprite reports headline earnings growth of 48.5 per cent

In the year to 3 July 2005, the Shoprite group increased headline earnings by 48,5% while total turnover increased 11,9% to R29.813bn. Operating profit rose 27,8% compared to 2004 to R912,2m. These results were achieved in a 53-week trading period compared to 52 weeks the previous year.

Shoprite reports strong growth on all fronts

The Shoprite group boosted operating profit before exchange differences by 47,7% to R466,2m in a reporting period of 27 weeks to end December 2004 compared to 26 weeks in the corresponding period in 2003. Headline earnings per share grew 55,4% from 39,0c to 60,6c. Once adjusted for exchange differences, the increase was 39,3% at 61,7c.
